The United Stats has faced many problems and the presidnets have helped them in some way or another. Two presidents out of 43, that helped are John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 25th president, and James Monore the 5th president. John F. Kennedy helped the U.S. during the Cuban Missile Crissis and Jame Monroe helped by writing the Monroe Doctrine.

      John F. Kennedy was born in Brookline Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. JFK was inaugurated into office on January 20,1961. During his presidency, one major crisis JFK had to face was the Cuban Missile Crisis. This was the closest the world ever came to a nuclear war. This Crisis started in 1962, when the Soviet Union’s army was not as strong as the United Sates. Since the Soviet Union was behind, they convinced Cuba to let them place missile stations in Cuba. On October15, 1962 there were photographs of the Soviet Union missile station under construction. John F. Kennedy was informed of this and he acted fast. He took twelve of his most important staff to help handle this crisis. Also, he wanted to set a naval quarantine, which was to watch all of the ships coming into Cuba.

            Kennedy also announced that any missile that was launched from Cuba would be like an attack on the United States. So Kennedy ordered all Soviets to taker out their weapons form Cuba. Every 2 hours, Kennedy would bring in a low level reconnaissance, which was people trained to secretly invade their enemies land.  Also, he got the military men to be ready to go fight at any time. The Soviets had heard this and then wrote in a letter that they would remove their missile stations in Cuba, if the United States would swore not to invade Cuba. There was a second letter that was also sent saying they would also have to remove all of their U.S. missiles in Turkey for them to take theirs out of Cuba. US ended up only agreeing with the first letter and the Soviets trusted them. The Soviets took their missiles out of Cuba. JFK helped the U.S. a lot during this Crisis.

        James Monroe was born on April 28, 1758 in Westmoreland, Virginia. James came into office on March 4, 1817. While Monroe was in office, he wrote the Monroe Doctrine on December 2, 1823. Monroe’s goal for this doctrine was to free the new independent colonies of Latin America from Europe’s control.   Monroe also wrote this because he was worried that Spain would try to gain control of the colonies it lost with the help of European powers. He thought the European nation would use force against America to get its colonies back.   He tried to find a way to warn the Europeans about any military actions. Britain tried to help the United Sates by coming up with an idea of writing a big declaration warning Europe about any actions near on the Western Hemisphere. Monroe had not been to sure in trusting them.

     With the help of John Adams, Monroe sent out a statement or policy saying that there was going to be an end in European colonization in the Americas. Everybody soon knew this as the Monroe Doctrine. Now Spain had almost no intention on getting their colonies back. This Doctrine also announced to the world that the Unites States was going to demand respect of other States. This was something symbolic for other countries and states. Also this made Russia re-think their claims on the Oregon territory. The United State was able to persuade Russia to let their claims go. James Monroe did a lot to help keep the newly freed stats, stay with the freedom they had.

      James Monroe had finished out his two terms on March 3,1825. On July 4,1831 James Monroe had passed away. John F. Kennedy had been assassinated on November 22,1963. I feel these two presidents helped our country in its time of need during their presidency.  These two presidents, JFK and James Monroe are very honorable for the thing they did to help our country.
